The first post

I was thinking of what to put in this first post last night while laying in bed in a half-feverish state, unable to fall asleep. For some reason I often get interesting ideas for things to say or write, either for a presentation, a paper, or something else, when I have trouble falling asleep. I can't really say anything about whether these thoughts come from being tired, or if my trouble falling alseep comes from having these thoughts. I guess it's the former. Anyway, these interesting ideas I get are, unfortunately, often forgotten by the time I wake up, though not always. I remember thinking last night that I should make a post for this site/blog, given that I actually set it up like two years ago, and that I should write something about what this site will contain and how it will operate. So I will do that now.

I do not expect that anyone will read this, perhaps ever, because I do not plan to advertise this to anyone. I also do not plan on keeping it a secret. If anyone does stumble upon this, then hello! It feels strange to write to no one, and I think that's one of the reasons it took me two years to post anything. But I decided now that it would be a fun thing to do, partly because this is so far out of my comfort zone (I am not someone who likes to expose myself to the scrutiny of other people, which I admit is quite a poor trait when you work in academia), and partly because I think it would be good therapy to just put my thoughts into words. I am and have always been a thinker. While I do want to post things here occasionally, I am quite sure it will not be a periodic thing. I might post two things in a week, and then nothing for half a year, only to come back and make three posts in rapid succession. Or I might do one a year (that would be disappointing, I should set some standard for myself).

Regarding the content itself, I suppose anything is possible, but I can be pretty sure it will mostly cover the topics that are important in my life, which includes astrophysics, the Julia programming languages, video games, food & cooking, my dog, myself, and my life in the Netherlands. What an absolutely wild list of subjects.

So, I think that's it for my first post. Perhaps it will be the last post. And if you're reading this, why?.
